Tadeo often imagined rocking out with his favorite band, the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Fighting Lymphoid Leukemia, Tadeo would sing their songs in motivation throughout treatment. His mother said, “RCHP gave him a lot of strength and resilience.” He says one of the songs, Snow (Hey Oh), sounds like their singing his name. Tadeo had seen a Chili Peppers concert in Peru but he dreamt of meeting the band, especially the drummer, Chad Smith.
Tadeo arrived in San Diego with incredible anticipation for the adventure ahead. At the Staples Center, Tadeo, with his own guitar in hand, and his entourage prepared to meet the Red Hot Chili Peppers. When the band appeared, Tadeo became shy until the lead singer, Anthony Kiedis, kneeled down and asked him how old he was in Spanish. From that moment on, Tadeo felt ready to conquer the world, or at least the stage. He took many photos with his idols and got his guitar signed. Tadeo’s ultimate moment was drumming with Chad Smith and receiving his drumsticks as a special gift.
His wish continues to inspire him. His mother adds, “I feel like it also gave him a way to see the good and the bad. When he listens to the music he is not in the hospital- he will be drumming with them.”
