Libby is an adventurous, outdoorsy girl whose love for animals is almost as big as her love for her family. Always wanting to go for a swim or play with animals, Libby received her wish when she got to experience first-hand what it is to care for a dolphin at Dolphin Island Care. With the help of her family, who joined her in the water, Libby was able to play with a dolphin in the water, even giving the dolphin little belly rubs and playing ball.
Libby’s excited smile could be seen from the dock platform where her family stood, proudly watching her have fun and relaxing. Libby’s reluctant, yet excited face when she first met the dolphin melted into pure happiness as they started playing, throwing the ball, and even dancing together. As Libby got comfortable in the water, and being the great swimmer that she is, she immediately put her hands out to the dolphin and gave it sweet little kisses.
Libby’s parents describe her as being independent and determined, and they believe that this dolphin experience helped Libby gain the confidence she needs. Splashing around with the dolphins and her siblings helped her forget all her worries for a few hours and “made her feel special.” As Libby’s mom said, “It’s incredible seeing her excitement…you can’t imagine that excitement and how special it is for her.”
This therapeutic experience not only left Libby feeling relaxed, but also confident in her abilities and full of joy because she got to swim with an animal. “We’ll definitely remember that forever, and every day the look on her face when she’s here with the dolphins in the water,” her mother said.
