Growing up in Florida, the enjoyment of a snow day can seem like a migration away, but Giliani was able to spread her wings and discover snow! Gili, who battles a hematologic disorder, departed on a wish of a lifetime-to explore snow as a butterfly.
Never before viewing the world from an aerial perspective, Gili and her family began their adventure with an airplane ride to Smugglers Notch, Vermont. Gili was in awe as the plane soared high above the once large trees.
Her wintry vacation included making snow angels and a snow man, as well as having a snowball fight where Gili was throwing “little-not big” snowballs, (according to Gili). The family also experienced swift tube rides down the snow-covered hills where she repeatedly begged her father to go again and again! Grand tours to Ben and Jerry’s and the Vermont Teddy Bear Company accented the wish. Both Gili and her sister received custom merchandise, ice cream samples, and teddy bear souvenirs. The highlight of the wish was the day Gili dressed in her butterfly antenna and graceful wings and fluttered around in the snow. Her mother said, “It’s heartwarming to hear Gili saying ‘Let’s go see the snow again.’” Gili broke out of her cocoon and made her dream of creating snow angels true.
