The Big Apple was where 11-year-old Emily, who has a genetic disorder, wanted to be. She dreamed of exploring as many New York City landmarks as possible. Since she is from Miami, the cold weather was a big change; but she was prepared to embrace the icy climate. This included seeing snow, ice skating at Rockefeller Center, and walking through Central Park. While exploring Manhattan, Emily and her family stayed at the Doubletree Metropolitan Hotel. She visited the Empire State Building and the National September 11 Memorial & Museum. Emily loved the opportunity to take a ferry for an up-close look at the Statue of Liberty. She also enjoyed watching the Tony award-winning Broadway musical Matilda in 4th row seats, which she said “was one of the best things I’ve seen.” Overall, she felt the best part of the trip was simply walking around the bustling city that never sleeps. Emily said, “My trip was perfect, everything was beautiful. This was an unforgettable experience.”
