They say ballet is like dreaming on your feet... but to 7-year-old Lucia, it's like a wish coming true! Lucia experienced something she'll never forget: she performed in The Nutcracker, thanks to the Miami City Ballet and the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts.
Lucia arrived at the Adrienne Arsht Center in a shiny white limousine – a fitting entrance for a star. Make-A-Wish staff, volunteers and ballerinas greeted Lucia and her family with warm smiles as she walked inside. After being interviewed by the media and appeasing her fans, Lucia was whisked away to her very own dressing room, where she was given VIP treatment. She gasped she saw her beautiful custom-made ballerina costume hanging on the clothing rack. Just a few sweet moments later, she was dressed by enthusiastic wardrobe specialists and dolled up by the ballet’s professional make-up artist.
Once on stage, Lucia blended in beautifully with the other ballerinas. For just a moment her osteosarcoma didn’t exist. She was carried onstage by one of The Nutcracker ballerinas and her arms were wide open as they twirled together across the scene. The audience cheered at the passion and poise of her performance!
With flowers in her hair and a sparkle in her eye, Lucia truly became a ballerina. “Thank you all for making my dream come true,” she said.
