Andreina’s zest for life is what has given her the power to push through difficult times. Although she was diagnosed with short-rib syndrome when she was born, Andreina has always found a way to not let her critical illness get in the way of her ambitions.
Andreina has dreamed of meeting pope Francis for years. In fact, she wrote him letters asking him to pray for her and to always keep her in his thoughts. When Andreina found out that her dream of meeting the pope would be fulfilled, she was absolutely ecstatic. After one failed attempt of meeting him at the Vatican a few years ago, she finally found the missing puzzle piece to have her wish granted: Make-A-Wish Southern Florida. With much anticipation, Andreina, her mother and her grandmother packed their bags and took off to Italy.
The big day finally arrived and Andreina was beaming with happiness. Pope Francis made his way around the crowd to Andreina. Smiling from ear to ear, she told the pope that she prays for him every night and asked to be blessed. He smiled, blessed Andreina and encouraged her and her family, and was deeply moved by Andreina's contagious joy.
"I had the best day of my life," said Andreina. "Thank you so much for making my dream come true!"
