Joseph was introduced to video games when he was four, igniting his passion for computer science and his dream to attend the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. When he was diagnosed with a gastrointestinal disorder, he feared his dreams would not become a reality. At age 12, he wished for a shopping spree at Best Buy to ensure he would remain tech-savvy for the future.
Eager to escape the dismal routine of extended visits to the hospital, Joseph began his shopping spree in style—he rode to the store in a white stretch limo with his family. He was greeted with enthusiasm at the door by a welcoming employee, ready to show him all the store had to offer. Joseph was super excited to buy a variety of video games, a laptop computer and other cool electronic gadgets. To top off his special day, he enjoyed a great dinner with his family.
Five years after his wish, Joseph says, "Whenever I am asked what the happiest day in my life has been or what the single strongest memory I have is, I can easily point to the day of my wish. It didn't only go as amazingly as I thought it would: it went beyond that and more. It is, with certainty, a memory that I can carry with me throughout my life.”
With the tools built for a bright future in his possession, Joseph, valedictorian of his class, was indeed able to enter the MIT Class of 2020.

A letter from Joseph’s mother:
About five years ago, Make-A-Wish provided my son Joseph with a wish. My son will be graduating this fall and will be heading to college this fall. As I look back on his life, I can't help but think back on how your wish impacted my son's life at a time when everything seemed so scary and complicated. My son is the valedictorian of his graduating class and will be heading to MIT. Recently, his high school wrote an article about Joseph and he mentioned how the Make-A-Wish Foundation provided him with the tools that helped to determine his future career. I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for allowing my son to experience hope through your gift. I am forever indebted with your organization. Thank you for bringing our children laughter, happiness and hope, even when life may seem dark and hopeless. Thank you!
