| University School of NSU’s Lunch Market Raises $10,000 More than 100 fourth grade students at University School of Nova Southeastern University recently held their annual weeklong lunch market. Just by selling new and slightly used items such as books, novelties, toys and CDs, they raised $10,000 to make wishes come true. “This project not only reinforces the character education we teach our students every day, but also incorporates a significant educational component,” said Sheila Szikman, fourth grade team leader. “Students learn real life math skills including counting money, giving change, and computing sales, expenses, and profits.” |

Riverside Elementary’s Ice Cream & Betty Crocker Bake Shop Mrs. Berger’s 4th grade class at Riverside Elementary held its annual ice cream shop to benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Southern Florida. This year they added an extra component and sold Betty Crocker cupcakes with supplies generously donated from our national partner, Betty Crocker. The class raised over $1400 for the Foundation. The total was bumped up to over $1800 when Mr. Hertz of Hertz Jewelers of Parkland generously contributed to the class’s total. Mr. Hertz raised the additional money by asking customers who came in for a watch battery repair to donate the fee to the Make-A-Wish Foundation instead of paying for the service. A huge thanks goes out to Mr Hertz, Mrs. Berger, the students, faculty, and parent volunteers at Riverside Elementary. |

Make-A-Wish Weekend The Event & Facilities Mgmt. class at Barry University is run similar to the hit reality show The Apprentice, where students learn by a hands-on education approach. This past Saturday, the class hosted “Make-A-Wish Weekend” at Barry’s final baseball and softball home games. One of their sponsored wish children, 11-year-old Andres began the double-header and family-fun day by throwing out the first pitch. The weekend’s fundraiser was one of a three-part-series for Barry students who worked this school year to raise $10,000, enough money to grant wishes for two local South Florida children. |
By donating cruise packages and by providing VIP treatment to ensure that each wish family has the experience of a lifetime, Royal Caribbean International is helping the Make-A-Wish Foundation® fulfill wishes for children whose most heartfelt wish is to take a cruise vacation.
