HOLLYWOOD, FL – More than 600 people coming together to help grant wishes for South Florida children and a performance by the incredibly versatile Roy Firestone were just two of the many highlights from a magical night at Hard Rock Live, scene of the recent Make-A-Wish Foundation® Ultimate Sports Auction. Titled “Sports * Stars * Wishes,” the 14th annual event raised $225,000, enough for 45 children with life-threatening medical conditions to make a wish and have it come true. The fundraiser featured players, coaches, and alumni from the Miami Heat, Florida Marlins, Miami Dolphins, Florida Panthers, and University of Miami auctioning one-of-a-kind sports-themed experiences, performances by South Florida natives Ana Cristina and Firestone, a silent auction with more than 150 items, and a celebrity-filled cocktail reception and dinner. Sports figures in attendance included the Miami Heat’s Jason Kapono and Michael Doleac, Florida Marlins President David Samson, University of Miami football coach Randy Shannon, Kevin Millar of the Baltimore Orioles, and WBO Heavyweight Champion Shannon Briggs, to name just a few. “We’re indebted to everyone who has made it possible for more local children to feel the power of a wish,” said Richard Kelly, vice president for chapter operations at the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Southern Florida. “For one day at least, these kids and their families will replace thoughts of doctors and hospitals with happiness.” Presented by Publix Super Markets Charities and Beck’s Beer, the ultimate sports auction has raised nearly $3 million since 1994.
