I had always known of the Make-A-Wish Foundation, but I was invited to some Make-A-Wish functions by my friend and former Make-A-Wish board chair Ben Eisenberg, where I was introduced to several key people including Norm Wedderburn, the Foundation’s President/CEO. I have several other friends and colleagues that were active with the organization and were drawn by the desire to get involved.

Why did you join the Cornerstone Society?
As I heard more from people who were deeply involved and devoted to the Foundation, I was impressed, and a bit taken back by their passion for this cause. More so, there were several parents whose children were “wish” recipients that spoke, and this sealed the deal for me. It was clear that there was no agenda, no politics, just people wanting to better the lives of children. It sounded like it really made a difference and had an impact.

What does your involvement with the Make-A-Wish Foundation mean to you?
It’s powerful to know in the back of my mind that my donation is ultimately directly helping someone. Even more so, I’ve involved my kids in the process and hope that they are able to derive some understanding of the challenges that other people have, as well as the need to give something back.

If you could make a wish, what would you wish for?
My wish would probably be that there was no need for the Make-A-Wish Foundation. However, if I was making a wish that was truly attainable, it would have to be to challenge the Food Network’s Bobby Flay to a ribs cook-off. May not win…but it would be fun!

Eight-year-old Allison wished for a cruise that she could share with her parents and three siblings who help her stay strong in her battle with leukemia. What she got was a voyage to paradise aboard the Carnival Freedom with many extra special stops along the way.

Allison took full advantage of each port starting with her bus tour of Old San Juan, where she saw beautiful cathedrals and architecture. In St. Thomas, she boarded the Skyride to Paradise Point 700 feet above sea level to catch some panoramic views of the harbor and lots of cruise ships.

In Antigua, Allison and her family headed to Runaway Beach for some fun in the sun – swimming, watching crabs and just digging their toes in the soft sand. Tortola offered Allison and her family more breathtaking views during their tour of the island. Lastly, Allison headed to the Bahamas for a day at the Atlantis Resort.

When she wasn’t island hopping, Allison was enjoying VIP perks on the ship. From a “Bon Voyage” party to milk and cookies in her cabin nightly and the discovery of different towel animals on her bed each day (she liked the orangutan the best), it was an adventure like no other!

Four-year-old Rose from Key West knows that fairy tales come true. Her dearest wish took her on a magical journey to Walt Disney World® Resort to become a princess, ride some roller coasters and meet her favorite Disney friends.

Once in Orlando, Rose and her family stayed at the fantastic Give Kids The World Village, a special resort designed solely for wish children with amenities fit for royalty. One truly majestic moment was watching the star she decorated be lifted to its permanent home on the ceiling in the Castle of Miracles.

At the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique, Rose’s fairy godmother pronounced her a princess. With a wave of her wand, Rose was transformed with a bejeweled tiara, gorgeous gown and glittering makeup. Other regal experiences included a visit to Cinderella’s Castle and the chance to shadow Belle from “Beauty and the Beast” for more than an hour. The pint-sized princess sought out every roller coaster and water ride. She rode any roller coaster that she was tall enough to go on and did so with her hands way up high.

At the end of her weeklong vacation, Rose asked her parents, “Why do we have to go home?” Her mother replied, “So other children can have their wishes granted.”

“Because of the Make-A-Wish Foundation, our family enjoyed a fun-filled, worry-free kid’s dream come true. During Rosie’s wish week, leukemia, chemotherapy and finances receded to the back of our minds.” –Rose, her mom and her dad
