Little did the Plantation Junior Woman’s Club know the magnitude of their decision to embark on a service project called “Make-A-Wish” in 1982. With one dinner dance, $13,000 was raised and the seed was planted for what would become the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Southern Florida. Today the Southern Florida chapter grants more than 500 wishes annually and has recently granted the 6000 th wish since its inception. The Plantation Junior Woman’s Club remains a strong and dedicated supporter of the Make-A-Wish mission. Members of the Club have held leadership roles in the organization since its beginning. Nancy Strom was the chapter’s first president and its driving force for 24 years. Joan Fenwick has been a part of the organization for 22 years and guides the Foundation in its wish-granting efforts as the Vice President of Program Services. The PJWC members reinforce their commitment to the Southern Florida chapter with periodic votes to continue their support. The Foundation is fortunate to have tremendous support in the Southern Florida community and PJWC remains one of its top financial supporters each year. The Plantation Junior Women’s Club hosted their Annual Casino Night and Dinner Dance to benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation in April. This year’s theme was “25 Years Ago, A Wish Started With A Dream,” honoring the Southern Florida chapter’s founding mothers. The evening’s festivities included a sit-down dinner, open bar, live music, casino-style games and live and silent auctions. There was also be a Texas Hold’Em Tournament with celebrity dealers. The emcee was Mark Schumacher. For more information or to support the Plantation Junior Woman's Club, click here.
