Nine-year-old Shemar of North Miami Beach had long dreamed of the opportunity to be a comedian. When not playing video games or watching his favorite cartoon SpongeBob SquarePants, he is busy making his mother and sister laugh. With a passion to make people laugh, it came as no surprise that Shemar’s wish was to be a comedian for a day.
His debut performance took place at the Improv Comedy Club in Hollywood, Florida. The Improv went above and beyond to make Shemar’s big night one that he would never forget. Special tickets featuring his photo were printed for the event and a team of local comedians were on hand to assist Shemar. Shemar received training and guidance from the local comedians, who displayed true passion and excitement for his wish while assisting him with writing the jokes for his act.
At show time, Shemar, accompanied by his mother and his sister, arrived at the Improv in style, pulling up in a sleek limousine. Shemar was greeted backstage by the local comedians as his loved ones took their place amongst the capacity crowd, all eager to laugh until their sides hurt on this family- friendly night. Shemar performed right after a few opening acts and just before the night’s headliner. He took to the stage in front of an excited, cheerful and passionate crowd, that was thrilled to be there to support his wish to be a comedian. His act was hilarious, ending in a standing ovation. Afterward, Shemar was presented with some Make-A-Wish goodies and a $100 gift certificate to Red Lobster, his favorite restaurant.
Shemar’s mother was truly thankful and said that her favorite moment of the wish experience was “seeing Shemar on stage.” Shemar said that the Make-A-Wish experience was “unbelievable” and that his wish day was “the best day of my life.”
