As a veterinarian who already supports several animal charities, Dr. Jennifer Prior knew that the next charity she wanted to help out would involve kids. After attending a Make-A-Wish Foundation event, she knew that she wanted to help make a difference. She said, “This amazing organization has changed my life.”
Jennifer has been volunteering for the Foundation since 2000. She is currently a wish granter and a speaker for events. Jennifer loves granting every wish, but her favorite memory of volunteering involved a little boy who wished to see his grandparents after several years of being apart. He was told that his grandparents may not be able to fly because it was just after September 11, 2011. Little did he know the surprise he would get on his birthday because when his parents brought his cake in, they brought his grandparents in as well. Jennifer said, “The look on the boy’s face was so priceless and he cried from being so excited. That moment brought tears to my eyes.”
Jennifer says she is so grateful to have the Make-A-Wish Foundation in her life. She adds, “It’s so gratifying and it makes me feel good to help someone else out. I’ve worked with other organizations but yet I always come back to this one.”
If Jennifer could wish for anything, she’d wish for little kids to never have to suffer. She wishes they would never have to go through tough times to begin with.
