How did you get involved with the Make-A-Wish Foundation?
I met Nancy Strom, the founding president of the Southern Florida chapter, seven years ago. When she told me about the Foundation’s mission, I realized that although there are many organizations that work to cure little bodies, no other organization works to heal a child’s soul and spirit and those of their families. I have always been passionate about children and supporting the Make-A-Wish Foundation was the perfect match.
Why did you join the Cornerstone Society?
There are many ways to give back and I strive to give of my time, talent and treasure. The Cornerstone Society is just an easy way to contribute the treasure piece of the equation. I love the idea of being able to know that each year I have sponsored a child’s magical wish.
What does your involvement with the Make-A-Wish Foundation mean to you?
We all have different capacities for giving back. I enjoy getting others involved, sharing my passion for making wishes come true with others and hopefully making it their passion as well. It is hard to find time for everything on my plate, but my time is very well invested with the Make-A-Wish Foundation. I reflect back after meeting a wish child, participating in a wish, attending a special event or a board meeting or reading the story of a child’s wish that I underwrote and it just keeps me going.
Why should other people join the Cornerstone Society?
It’s easy to give and you know exactly where your money is going. After your pledge is fulfilled, you receive a recognition piece all about the wish that you made possible. It’s a wonderful way to connect how your donation made a positive impact in the lives of a sick child and their entire family.
If you could make a wish, what would you wish for?
My wish would be that the Foundation has the ability to deliver wishes in perpetuity. Unfortunately, children will get sick so I would wish to have the resources to identify these children and make their wishes come true from now into infinity.
Brenda’s Cornerstone Society membership funded 7-year-old Scott’s wish to meet the Chicago White Sox and 18-year-old Alexi’s wish to go to Walt Disney World®. She recently renewed her Cornerstone Society membership with a 5-year pledge at the “Joy” level, which will grant the wishes of five more brave children.
